Christian Schulz is Chief Economist at Allianz Global Investors. Christian leads AllianzGI’s Global Economics & Strategy team, which prepares macroeconomic research and market insights that help inform investment portfolios and positioning at the firm as well as producing a broad range of thought-leadership for clients.

Christian has nearly 25 years of experience in macroeconomic research and financial services. Before joining the AllianzGI in 2025, Christian was Deputy Chief European Economist at Citigroup Global Markets, based in Frankfurt where he co-lead Citi’s European Economics team and was responsible for coverage of Germany, Switzerland, and the European Central Bank.

Prior to Citi, he was a Senior Economist at Berenberg in London, where he was part of the economics team covering the Eurozone and global macroeconomic developments. Earlier in his career, he worked as a market infrastructure expert at the European Central Bank in Frankfurt, and as a consultant at BCG.

Christian holds a Doctorate in Economics from the University of Hamburg. He also holds a Diploma degree in economics from the University of Hamburg and a BSc in Financial Economics from the University of St Andrews.
