The Sustainability Insights Engine (SusIE) is a digital platform based on state-of-the-art technology to mainstream access to ESG data
The digital platform allows investment teams to better navigate the ever more challenging ESG data landscape as well as meet client current and future needs
21 March 2023. AllianzGI announced today the launch of a proprietary sustainability data platform, the Sustainability Insights Engine (SusIE) underlining our ambition to become a sustainability shaper.
The growth in ESG disclosures in recent decades has been dramatic and now reached a point where almost 80% of the world’s largest global companies and 96% of the world’s 250 largest companies report on sustainability. Integrating non-financial factors into investment decision making is increasingly mainstream, but the choice and style of data being integrated is still evolving. ESG disclosures and complexity will only grow and the addition of further information to disclose will result in an even more challenging data system to report and understand1 . A scattered data landscape requires the need for a system to properly structure, compute and use sustainability data.
Matt Christensen, Global Head of Sustainable & Impact Investment comments:
“The world of ESG data is growing in volume and complexity. Asset managers are expected to help clients to show what is the most relevant use of the data specific to asset classes while meeting challenging regulatory demands. Allianz Global Investors will utilize its dedicated ESG data set up to shape the most meaningful solutions and in so doing, demystify, inform and guide our clients on the most appropriate methodologies and analytics for targeted outcomes. A strong proprietary data architecture, which embraces change and innovation, will be critical in driving sustainability insights, investment decision making and achieving non-financial outcomes alongside financial returns – the launch of SusIE is a game changer for us”.
SusIE is a web-based user interface using state-of-the-art technology to mainstream access to ESG data.
SusIE computes external ESG data from multiple providers as well as AllianzGI proprietary scores and research inputs. The data are then cleaned, processed and standardised into one data set that is distributed to all consuming systems including front-office, research, compliance, risk, and client reporting tools. The engine was developed in-house by a dedicated Sustainability Methodologies and Analytics team. Anticipating the significant growth in ESG data sources, this team was created in 2021 to develop the strategy and architecture to support transparent, robust and clear input of ESG, Sustainability and Climate factors. SusIE will be released at first for AllianzGI investment professionals.
