Five takeaways from our Sustainability and Stewardship Report 2022

With the publication of our Sustainability and Stewardship Report 2022 we review a year when sustainable investing was tested like rarely before – and arguably came out stronger. Here are some of our highlights:
1. Moving from ESG to sustainability to impact
Testing market dynamics and greater investor expectations were the backdrop to a sharper focus in 2022 on what sustainable investing needs to achieve, and how it should be measured. Our report showcases progress on our journey from a focus on ESG1-risk, to purposeful sustainability solutions to meaningful impact, and we believe this direction of travel towards real-world change will be the long-term trend of the decade.
2. Delivering greater transparency in our products
The regulatory environment has become both more comprehensive and more complex. To enhance the transparency and credibility of our expanded product range we evolved our product categorisation to emphasise measurability and reportability for investors. Key performance indicators defining AllianzGI Article 8 funds are at the core of this new approach. Our goal is to guide investors on their journey from ESG to sustainability to impact with a diverse range of products.
3. Enhancing our ESG data strategy
ESG data is the foundation of every sustainability-informed investment decision we make. Our newly launched Sustainability Insights Engine – SusIE – is a critical part of our ESG data strategy. A proprietary tool, SusIE provides our entire investment platform with enhanced access to ESG data for investment decision-making. This tool is key to our belief that a strong ESG data strategy moves AllianzGI and the industry further towards change.
4. Expanding our stewardship activities
In 2022 our stewardship activities expanded – across more countries, topics, and asset classes while our established pivotal sustainability themes of climate change, planetary boundaries and inclusive capitalism remained integral. We developed new processes to further our stewardship of fixed-income strategies and, with our local teams, we significantly increased our engagement work across Asia seeking real change from investee companies.
5. Embedding sustainability in everything we do
Beyond our commitments as an investor, we view corporate sustainability – how we live and breathe sustainability in our business – as a driver of sustainable growth across our global operations. We made significant progress in strengthening and embedding our strategy during 2022. Our new framework and three-year roadmap have elevated our ambitions for positive societal impact, our ESG focus and our culture of corporate citizenship. We aim to live our sustainability commitments to meet the same high standards that we expect from investee companies.
